Bell takes education seriously
The following is the text of a Letter to the Editor written by Ruth Ann Few, president, Brazosport Federation of Teachers & Support Personnel, Lake Jackson.

Education is a major issue in this election. Texas is facing numerous problems such as inadequate funding, conflicting accountability standards, high-stakes testing (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills), rising drop-out rates and changing curriculum standards. As a lifelong Texas educator and the current president of the Brazosport Federation of Teachers, I care about education.
Chris Bell is the federation’s choice for District 17 state senator. He has been a supporter of teachers and public education throughout his years as a public servant. He has taken a stand to end the state’s over-reliance on high-stakes standardized testing and getting students ready for college or career training.
Bell will make sure Texas invests in our future by giving our public schools the resources they need to provide our children with a rigorous and useful education. He will support a much-needed and deserved cost-of-living increase for retired teachers who haven’t had a pension increase since 2000. He will not be just another state senator, he will be a leader in the Texas Senate and move this state into a position of excellence in public education. Take a stand for education and vote for Chris Bell.
