Bell doubles fundraising goal a day early
In a sign of gathering momentum with only 11 weeks until Election Day, Chris Bell met his online fundraising goal a day early.
Initially hoping to raise $10,000 in 10 days, the Bell campaign reached that mark in three days, so they doubled the goal to $20,000 in 20 days.
On Day 19, the Bell campaign broke that barrier.
The $20,000 in 20 Days online fundraising campaign has now raised $22,057 from 130 individual donors.
The campaign has raised $32,142 overall online via ActBlue, a web-based fundraising clearinghouse for Democratic campaigns, ranking the Bell campaign among the most successful state legislative campaigns for online fundraising in the entire country.

"Our success in raising money online brings us that much closer to making progress toward the goals we all care about: public schools, access to health care, and ethics reform," said Chris Bell.
"Doubling our online fundraising goals goes a long way toward bringing my brand of reform to the Texas Senate."
Independent polling conducted for Texans for Insurance Reform puts Chris Bell in a commanding lead in the special election, with 13.5% lead on his nearest Republican rival. The poll also found that Chris Bell has higher name identification in SD 17 than U.S. Sen. John Cornyn has. The pollster, Jeff Smith of Opinion Analysts labels Mr. Bell the “frontrunner in a very winnable contest.”
Chris Bell was an at-large Houston City Council Member from 1997 till 2002, a Houston mayoral candidate in 2001, and in the U.S. Congress in 2003-04 when he lost re-election thanks to a politically motivated redistricting process led by former Rep. Tom DeLay.
In 2006, Bell was the Democratic nominee for Texas Governor. An attorney, he lives in southwest Houston with his wife Alison Ayres Bell, and his two sons, Atlee and Connally.
The special election to be held on Election Day, November 4th will fill the vacancy created by Sen. Kyle Janek’s resignation. A runoff will follow if no candidate in the special election gets a majority.
